Alataj speaks with 747 to discuss the Aurora Centralis Remix EP

Brazilian Alataj features 747 in their Track by Track series to break down each of the remixes on the EP. Check out the full interview in Portuguese here.

Schacke Remix:

I first met Schacke in May 2018 at a warehouse party we were playing in Paris. It was the very first party I got booked at outside of Canada so obviously it was extremely memorable. Schacke and I were headlining, and we got to chat for a couple hours before the set. He was telling me about his upcoming residency in St. Petersburg at a venue called Клуб (“Club”), which is where he went on to make his well known Kisloty Forever EP. Looking back on that night it’s really amazing to see how far he’s come and to see him get the credit he deserves. Aurora Centralis is a special track for me and it’s a real pleasure to come full circle and collaborate together on the remix EP. His version peels back the melancholic aspect of the original and replaces it with an up-tempo and playful vibe.

Tin Man’s Spaced Remix:

I was introduced to Tin Man many years ago by Emily who owns Aquaregia, and his music was among some of the integral acid tracks that got me hooked on the genre. These days there are a handful of artists that produce the occasional acid track, but it’s rare to find an artist like Tin Man that is dedicated to the sound. His sound has had a huge impact on my music including Aurora Centralis, so to have him contribute not one but two remixes is a dream come true. Tin Man’s Spaced Remix will be featured on the record, while the Detroit Remix is a digital bonus. They are structured similarly but are outfitted with different sounds to give both an extremely unique feel to them. The Spaced Remix is a hazy and soothing version and the Detroit Remix uses uplifting strings hence the name of the remix.

nthng’s Saiyan Saga:

It’s not often you come across artists where there is not a single song in their discography you dislike. I own almost every single one of nthng’s records, and they get some of the heaviest use when I play as well. Prior to these remixes if I were to name my dream collaboration, it would definitely have been with nthng so I was extremely excited the label was able to get him onboard. This was his first remix he’s ever done, so it’s such an honour to have him create two remixes for the EP. Similar to Tin Man’s remixes, one will be on the record and the other will be a digital bonus. The Saiyan Saga is an aptly named 10 minute long listening experience where he uses the staccato acid stem to lay down a rhythm, an oscillating triplet, and beautiful ambient sections to create, in my opinion, one of his best works. The digital bonus Saiyan Dream builds upon the ambient sections in the Saga, which will definitely please any nthng fan.

Primal Code Remix:

I first discovered Primal Code a few years back with their releases on Konstrukt and Hypnus, and I’ve been a big fan ever since. They work their 303 similar to how I use it except it’s incorporated with a far deeper and hypnotic style of techno. It’s really amazing to me how such a recognizable and prominent sound such as acid can have so many different shades to it when changing the context around it. It’s what makes each acid producer unique and to me, Primal Code are one of the best at it. Their remix is a beautiful hypnotic piece that features gliding acid notes, signature Primal Code soundscapes, and the original pads.
